What is a Dental Veneer?
Veneers are pieces of durable, thin and tooth-shaped porcelain that are custom-crafted to match the shape and colour of your teeth in a dental laboratory and then bonded to your natural teeth to alter their appearance.
At Downtown Dental, our dentists use veneers to create a more uniform smile for our patients. Your dentist bonds the restoration to the front of your natural tooth to change the symmetry, shape or colour of your smile.
How Veneers Work
Your dentist will take an impression of your smile that they can use to create the custom veneers that will be placed in your smile.
Once your veneers have been made in a dental laboratory, you will come into our Charlottetown office for another appointment in order to have them bonded to the fronts of your natural teeth.
Made from a razor-thin piece of porcelain, veneers are custom-shaped to match your tooth. The porcelain imitates the natural translucency of tooth enamel and has a very natural look and feel.
Features of Veneers
If you are looking for a way to change the shape of individual teeth, the evenness of your whole smile, or the discolouration of a single tooth, then dental veneers may be a suitable treatment alternative to dental crowns.
Conditions that dental veneers can resolve include worn, crooked, or discoloured teeth. They can also reduce unwanted spacing and change the size of your teeth.
If cared for properly, dental veneers can last for many, many years.
